Kearsarge Peak

Still in the foothills of these giant peaks, but peeking a little into the High Sierra near one of my favorite summer spots.

kearsarge-1.jpg Good morning Mount Morrison

kearsarge-2.jpg Man these road views never get old

kearsarge-4.jpg Mount Williamson, CA’s second highest, looking like a unit

kearsarge-5.jpg Starting the day on a low patch of snow

kearsarge-6.jpg We really didn’t skin all that much today

kearsarge-7.jpg All the way to the desert

kearsarge-8.jpg Finally seeing some trees

kearsarge-9.jpg They look pretty cool in this area

kearsarge-10.jpg Maybe a Foxtail Pine? Definitely some relation to the oldest trees on earth, the Ancient Bristlecone Pine, found in the next mountain range over.

kearsarge-11.jpg Trying to find shelter in the strong gusts before we make the final push above treeline

kearsarge-12.jpg The ski back down was interesting... Very wind scoured snow/ice/penitentes type texture.

kearsarge-13.jpg Love seeing the stark contrast from the desert to these massive peaks

kearsarge-14.jpg Peeking into the High Sierra

kearsarge-15.jpg We skied all the way down the lowermost patch of snow seen in the center

kearsarge-16.jpg Good evening Mount Morrison

Notes

  • This was probably ~6 miles and ~6600 feet of vertical gain in a little under 7 ½ hours.
