Kearsarge Peak

Still in the foothills of these giant peaks, but peeking a little into the High Sierra near one of my favorite summer spots.

Good morning Mount Morrison

Man these road views never get old

Mount Williamson, CA’s second highest, looking like a unit

Starting the day on a low patch of snow

We really didn’t skin all that much today

All the way to the desert

Finally seeing some trees

They look pretty cool in this area

Maybe a Foxtail Pine? Definitely some relation to the oldest trees on earth, the Ancient Bristlecone Pine, found in the next mountain range over.

Trying to find shelter in the strong gusts before we make the final push above treeline

The ski back down was interesting... Very wind scoured snow/ice/penitentes type texture.

Love seeing the stark contrast from the desert to these massive peaks

Peeking into the High Sierra

We skied all the way down the lowermost patch of snow seen in the center

Good evening Mount Morrison

Notes

  • This was probably ~6 miles and ~6600 feet of vertical gain in a little under 7 ½ hours.
