Mount Hood Old Chute

My third summit of hood and my second time skiing off the true summit. I think I’m done with this route for good haha.

hood-1.jpg The usual view of Hood from Timberline. I originally intended to ski the Meadows side but it was closed for construction the one day I showed up.

hood-2.jpg Southern OR volcanos in the distance, nothing much around here

hood-3.jpg Hood looking pretty sad without snow on the rocks

hood-4.jpg Devil’s Kitchen in a sorry state

hood-5.jpg Stinky fumarole

hood-6.jpg Yep the Pearly Gates are definitely out

hood-7.jpg The chutes are an underrated steep one in my opinion

hood-8.jpg Views of the WA volcanos, man you can’t even see Rainier without squinting very hard. Barely any views to the north either.

hood-9.jpg One more looking south at the OR volcanos (Broken Top, Three Sisters, Jefferson)

hood-10.jpg Very booted out trail on spring snow, which made “skiing” off the summit and across the ridge pretty precarious

hood-11.jpg Onto the good stuff. The first turn is always the hardest!

Notes

  • This was probably ~7 miles and ~5400 feet of vertical gain in a little under 3 ½ hours.
