Cold Fusion
Finishing the last of the 50 classic ski descents in the Wasatch region. Glad I em done, and I see the value in the them, but excited for the cooler lines in the region going forward.
Morning light on Timpanogos, the north face and the Grunge Couloir
Topping out at the subpeak and looking at the long Timp massif.
The Grunge Couloir starts after the jutting boulder.
Skiing it seeemed really good today, but didn’t want to split the group and too many unknowns - next time.
Utah Lake
Mount Nebo
I skied some chalky pow off the north face before joining back to the top of the Cold Fusion. I think the whole thing goes, surprised it doesn’t get done more often from searching online.
Notes
- This was probably ~10 miles and ~5200 feet of vertical gain in about 5 ½ hours.
- I think the best way to do this tour in ideal conditions is probably to drop Cold Fusion, boot back up, then exit via Grunge + unnamed north couloir, especially since the latter reduces road skiing.
- Cold Fusion seems hard to get in good conditions, just due to the size of it. Massive avy path, wide open face, prone to wind scouring, and getting a decent amount of sun in some spots.
- As noted, I think the north face of timp could go more often? Looking at my pictures, I think dropping skier’s right appeared continuous through the trees and contouring into the unnamed couloir around 10100 ft. Might require a rappel but it seems less contrived than the traverse run or Bury the Hatchet. It looks like it’s been skied clean, but curious about exiting above this.
