Mount Ellinor

We had one of the worst starts to the seasonal snowpack with heavy atmospheric rivers throughout December (instead of snowfall) and the stoke was pretty low to begin with. However I have never been to this side of the Olympics nor have I seen Mount Olympus so I mustered whatever motivation I had to get out.

The first ski of the year, and it’s already looking like spring... We would end up skiing that couloir in the distance a couple times as it seemed to be the best run. Funny to be skiing corn this time of year.

We never needed skins today

The scramble from Mount Washington (shown) to here is on my list of things to do

A bit boney but we still managed to drop off the south side of Ellinor

My first view of Mount Olympus!

These photos will be low-res and vague but it’s not often you get a five volcano view in Washington, at least in the Cascades. Mount Baker.

Glacier Peak

Rainier

Adams

St. Helens

Seattle. The peaks all the way in the back are the Chiwaukums - I did not know you could see out that far especially with this haze.

Notes

  • This was probably ~7 miles and ~5800 feet of vertical gain in a little over 6 ½ hours.
