Wapta Traverse

This was one of the big outings I wanted to do in the Canadian Rockies and thankfully the weather finally started opening up at the end of our trip.

A morning skin across Sherbrooke Lake

Looks like the profile of a face

Huge

The top bit of Mount Temple

Rock wall

Niles

Some friends skiing down near Daly in the other direction

Just a lot of white

A looong walk up to the edge of the white plains

Looking at Balfour

Onto the next section, and another looong flat walk ahead of us

Looks like a croissant

More fields of white

No way we were gonna tag Gordon

Heading up to Mount Rhondda now

The drier eastern side of the Canadian Rockies

Contrasted with the more snowy western side

Lots of tracks on the Bow-Yoho traverse

Looking down to Peyto Lake, our exit in view

A crazy long powder run in the process

Maybe a few miles worth

Our descent from the far ridge

The shadows over Peyto Lake making for easy skating

One last skin...

And back to the road with great views still

Notes

  • This was probably ~30 miles and ~9200 feet of vertical gain in a little under 13 hours.
