Mount Rainier Tahoma Glacier

I missed the party last year on this line, so I was super thankful to make it out this year.

3rd time slogging up this thing in 8 days lol

I will say this day felt weird with the extra late start time, with us leaving the parking lot in daylight

Man that thing

Wonder when that thing is gonna fall off

It was cool watching this thing evolve from a trivial single wooden plank to a full fledged ladder

Starting the descent down the Tahoma Glacier and seeing these huge seracs to our left

The ampitheater

Down the headwall

And our exit slope was blue lol

Thankfully we managed to cross a pretty thin snowbridge and then take a look at where our original exit slope would spit you out

Biiig cracks on the Tahoma Glacier

Seracs the size of a small house

Looking back up the headwall

And out we go

Primitive trail down to Tahoma Creek

Bushwacking

Yep very slow going on boulder hoppy terrain, shoulda taken the trail whoops

Notes

  • This was probably ~20 miles and ~9400 feet of vertical gain right around 13 hours.
  • I wrote a rare Turns All Year trip report because I thought it might help somebody :)
